Care starts after the break

Empty the box after the walk and remove loose remains. Open removable inserts where designed to do so. Read guidance for both base and lid. A steel container may tolerate a different method from a coated lid or flexible gasket. One component's material does not describe the whole assembly.

If the seal is removable, follow the specified method. Do not use a sharp knife point on a stubborn edge. Some makers provide a tab or allow a blunt tool; without that permission, leave it in place and clean the accessible area as directed.

Include the groove and rim

Clean the rim, gasket channel, and lid contact surface. Small remains can survive a quick rinse of the main container. Use a suitable soft tool and approved cleaner, then rinse thoroughly.

SIGG emphasizes the condition of the seal and cleanliness of the rim in its lunchbox guidance. Greater closing pressure does not correct a dirty seating area. Inspect for tears and significant deformation. Washing again does not automatically restore an altered gasket's shape.

Dry components separately

Arrange approved parts with air access. Moisture may remain beneath a gasket refitted immediately. Check small lid areas and clip attachments. The large base can be dry while a narrow channel still holds water. Include drying in the normal routine.

Refit the seal evenly in its intended direction, without twisting. Inspect its whole route and close the clips normally. A lid retained only with unusual pressure should not be treated as successful cleaning and assembly. Investigate the cause or obtain the appropriate spare.

Before the next outing

Assess the assembled box in a suitable place. Declared suitability for liquids differs from a shape that happens to be closed. Continue using it only for permitted contents. Damaged sealing surfaces, a cracked lid, or clips that fail to retain it call for a repair or replacement decision. An extra bag may limit soiling but cannot restore the original function. Keep similar-looking seals associated with their own containers rather than mixing them during washing.
