A walking weekend does not automatically require several heavy pairs. Establish which footwear covers the routes and what you want to wear while traveling. An extra pair then needs a particular job. “For the evening in town while the boots air” is more useful than a general “perhaps.”
Pack clean and return separately
Inspect the walking pair before travel and remove loose dirt according to the instructions. A shoe bag separates soles from clothing without necessarily being waterproof. Read its specifications if you expect damp footwear on the return.
Position both shoes so hooks do not rub delicate fabrics. Avoid pulling laces exceptionally tight merely to reduce their shape. A suitable luggage space is better than continuous pressure on particular components.
A separate used bag may help on the return if the outer packaging should remain clean. Clear separation matters more than adding excessive packaging. Also plan where you will unpack the shoes immediately at home.
Do not leave them in their transport arrangement
Remove the pair from a tightly closed travel bag after arriving. If damp, follow the model's drying guidance. LOWA specifies a well-ventilated location away from heat for the relevant footwear. A bag suitable for a train journey is not automatically the correct overnight storage.
Put the shoes somewhere that does not obstruct a passage or invite confusion with another pair. With several similar boots nearby, a recognizable feature on your own bag helps without marking the footwear itself.
Check before the homeward journey
Make sure insoles, laces and accessories are present. Remove visible loose stones without handling concealed sharp objects carelessly. Pack damp spare socks separately. Before closing the luggage, check whether a wet bag can contact clean clothing through its opening or an unsuitable compartment. Adjust the arrangement while there is still space to work.
Do not put the pair straight into a cupboard after the weekend. The travel routine ends with unpacking, appropriate cleaning and complete drying. The next walk then begins with checked footwear rather than the remnants of the last journey home.
